Charitable Works

The Grand Priory of Canada requires that each priory devote itself to at least three charitable works, one international, one national and one local.

The Priory of Simon Peter provides micro-loans to women in the Third World wishing to set up businesses by which they can improve their standard of living and take better control of their future prospects. These loans have thus far had a repayment rate of over ninety-five percent

The Priory Council has recently approved our national endeavour, which is to collect still serviceable youth hockey equipment and to send it to the Northwest Territories for the use of children whose parents could not afford to purchase such equipment. We call the project, with apologies for the pun, “Hockey Knights in Canada.” Our aim is to offer these youths a healthy alternative to their sedentary lifestyle during the long winter months.

The Priory of Saint Peter supports:

  • The Aphasia Centre of Ottawa in their annual “Walk and Talk for Aphasia” fundraising event as well as other fundraising event throughout the year; this assistance has enabled the staff of the Centre to continue their counselling and therapy work at a higher level than in the past, because they have had to set aside considerably less time and effort to solicit the funding necessary to run their programs.
  • Cornerstone Woman’s Shelter
